Objectives

Removal the pollution from runoff water in order to improve the water quality and its value. Thereby, avoid pollution and degradation of water resources; coastal, Surface and ground waters.
Valorization of runoff water for its reuse in beneficial purposes such as irrigation, washing etc.
Increase infiltration of storm water through DrainRain sustainable drainage system, which will contribute to achieve the objectives of the Floods Directive.
Demonstration of technical, socio-economic and environmental feasibility of a full-scale modular system for combating runoff water pollution.
Transferability and replicability to others locations, entities and sectors through elaboration specific guidelines.
Validation of the system in two locations with different climate, a port and hard shoulder of the road, to achieve a greater representation and to be able to scale the results to any context of diffuse pollution. The two demonstration pilot plants will be in Ferrol (A Coruña) and Calasparra (Murcia), with Oceanic and Mediterranean climate, respectively.
To provide European water industries with a Sustainable drainage design for the purpose to purify and store the runoff water.
Dissemination and transferability of results to stakeholders involved as well as target audience.
To estimate the Project´s environmental, social and economic impact based on the mitigation of runoff water pollution in European water bodies.
